Burke & Hare (2010). Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis snatch bodies in 19th c. Edinburgh – times are tough, okay? John Landis – yes, that’s right – directs this black comedy. This really should be the point you stop reading and go watch, but for you doubters, I’m just going to throw some more names at you.
Those who lend their talents to provide a little more flavor to this mad mad comedic feast. We start with Bill Bailey telling you what’s what. Throw in a little Tim Curry as the mad surgeon with a foot fetish. Balanced against the more reasonable medical scientist Tom Wilkerson. They fight over dead bodies. Christopher Lee gets involved. Isla Fisher puts on a show. The creme of British comedy cameos…along with the Godfather of movie effects Ray Harryhausen.
Have I got your attention yet?
The film is delightfully detailed with so many nods my neck is sore. Biggest giggle for me though was Serkis eating a fish. When you see, you’ll know why. Perhaps you can guess.
